Lacassine- Kirk A. Ewalt, 80, passed away after a brief illness in M.D. Anderson in Houston, Texas on Saturday, August 17, 2013.

Kirk was born April 14, 1933 in Roanoke, LA to William and Hallie Wilkinson Ewalt.  He was a graduate of McNeese State University with his Bachelor of Science in business. Kirk worked at the Governor’s office as a budget analyst. He served in the United States Navy as a personnel clerk at the Point Mugu naval base in San Diego. Kirk was a 50 year member of the Travelers Protective Association; He was also a member of the Optimist Club of Lacassine and the Louisiana State Employees Retirement Association.  He enjoyed gardening, blueberry farming and outdoor cooking with his family and friends. Kirk enjoyed caring for his chickens, dogs and cats. He lived each day to the fullest and his family will cherish his loving memory.

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Linda Ewalt of Lacassine; sons, Richard  Ewalt and wife, Laura, of Nashville, TN, Russell Ewalt of Lake Charles; daughters, Mitzi Ewalt Hubbard and companion, Bradley Rogers of Houston, TX, Lori Ewalt of Houston, TX and Karen Ewalt Simons and husband, Rene, of Buffalo, TX; brother, William Ewalt and companion, Shirley Benoit of Lacassine; sisters, Sylvia Waite and husband, Kenneth of Lake Charles, Dorothy Miller of Lake Charles, Zina Babbitt and husband, Les, of Springfield, MO, Barbara DeMuth of Jasper, AR, Sandra Wing and husband, Charles, of Westlake, LA; grandchildren, Jeffrey Hubbard, Bradley Gonzales, Adam Ewalt, Monique Ewalt, Travis Moles, Alexander and Jason Rhizor. He is preceded in death by his father, William Rollin Ewalt and mother, Hallie Ewalt Parsons.

Funeral services are Tuesday, August 20, 2013 in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa, 505 Hwy 90 East,  at 11:00 a.m.  with Father Roland Vaughn officiating. Visitation will begin Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the funeral home and continue Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow in Lacassine Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa.

Doris Lee “Buck” Leger

 

Lake Charles- Doris Lee Leger, 60, passed away in his residence surrounded by his loving family, Friday, August 02, 2013.

Buck was born on April 29, 1953 in Hayes to the late Zannie and Blanche Blanchard Leger. He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Buck was employed as an auto mechanic. He enjoyed working on old cars, particular a 1956 Chevrolet. Buck loved motorcycles and did several poker runs. He also had a love of music and played the accordion. In 1986, Buck made the pilgrim from Prairie, Rome to Mexico City, Mexico for “Our Lady of Guadalupe” Cursillo walk. The walk took him 3 months and 18 days.

Left to cherish his memory are his stepson, Michael Airhard of Chicago; daughters,  Dawauna Leger of Lake Charles and Shelly Hebert (Brian) of Iowa; brothers, Isaac Leger (Barbara) of Hayes, Freeman Leger (Betty) of Lacassine, Murphy Leger (Loretta) of Hayes, Jimmy Leger (Mary Lou) of Hayes and Danny Leger (Gaylyn) of Waco, TX; sisters, Mary Semar of Hayes, Caroline Smith of Lake Charles, Elaine Thibodeaux of Hayes and Esther Smith (Robert) of Hayes; 9 wonderful grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Lorna Leger and parents.

A mass of Christian burial will be Monday, August 5, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Lacassine, with Father Roland Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in Lacassine Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home. Visitation is Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Cursillo rosary at 7:00 p.m. and will continue Monday at 8:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to help with Buck’s medical expenses.
