Frances G. Daigle


Lacassine-Frances G. Daigle, 88, passed away in a Jennings hospital on Saturday, December 28, 2013.


Frances was born on January 21, 1925 in Stamps, Arkansas to the late E. P. Payne and Exela Fulmer. She was a 1944 graduate of West Hampton Beach High School on Long Island, New York. Frances attended St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where she was a member of the Ladies Altar Society.  She owned and operated the Iowa Bakery for many years. Her interests included baking, cake decorating, gardening and cooking for her family and friends.


Her survivors include her sons, George (Jona) Daigle of Iowa, Michael (Diane)  Paul Daigle, Tommy (Deidra)  Daigle and Kevin Daigle, all of Lacassine; daughters, Donna Daigle of Woodlawn and Valeria  Daigle Craig (Gregory) of Jena, LA; brother, Hershel (Dorothy) Payne of Galveston, Texas; 22 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, George R. Daigle, 1 brother, 1 sister and 3 grandchildren.


Her funeral service will be in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Roland Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in Lacassine Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home and will continue Tuesday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.

Nanette Jane Speer


Lake Charles- Nanette Jane Speer, formerly of Coteau, 70, passed away Friday, December 27, 2013 in Lake Charles, LA.


She was born in Lake Charles on April 9, 1943 to Hattie (Sonnier) and Clifton Landry. Jane loved spending time with her friends and family.


Her survivors are her three (3) sons, Ernie (Kathy) Speer, Paul (Michelle) Speer and Stephen (Kay) Speer; one (1) daughter, Kim Speer; 9 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; four (4) brothers, C. J. Landry, Arthur Lee (Bitsy) Landry, Lane Landry, Kirk (Linda) Landry; three (3) sisters, Virgie (Ronnie) Hughes, Linda (Leonard) Arsement, and Dale (Terry) Taylor.


She is preceded in death by her special friend, Ernest Romero, parents, and her brother, Rufus Wayne “Cowboy:” Landry and sister in law, Harriet B. Landry.


Visitation is in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home on Sunday, December 29, 2013 from 11 a.m. until the service time at 2 p.m. with Father Bennie Wego officiating.  A rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. by Leonard Arsement. Cremation is entrusted to Johnson & Brown Funeral Home.

Anthony Roy


Iowa-Anthony Roy, 86, passed away in a local hospital Thursday, December 19, 2013.


Anthony was the son of the late Joseph Eurick Roy and Katie Gauthreaux. He was born December 14, 1927.  He was a 1945 graduate of LaGrange High School. In October of 1945, he was drafted into the U.S. Army Airforce and served in Japan for 2 years as an air traffic controller. He was a member of the Carpenters Local 953 and later became a superintendent.  Anthony was instrumental in the construction of many area buildings, including Barbe High School, First Federal Savings & Loan, and the Family Life Center at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.  He retired from Alfred Palma Inc., successor of Bartley Inc. He was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church.  His greatest interests were gardening, hunting, fishing, shrimping, genealogy and his 14 great grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and football.


Anthony’s survivors include his wife of 61 years, Florence Davis Roy; sons, Michael Anthony Roy and spouse, Margaret of DeRidder, and  Mark Roy and wife, Debbie of Iowa; daughters, Cynthia Leanne Roy of Lake Charles and Katie Roy Voyght and husband, Adrian of LeBleu Settlement; sister in law, Betty Roy of Lake Charles; 7 grandchildren, Jessica Roy Huval (Scotty),  Jennifer Roy Lantz (Shaye), Jill Roy Stollsteimer (Robbie), Kris Roy (Lauren), Jared Roy (Vickie), Courtnee Phillips Granger (Eric) and Brandon Phillips (Meagan); 14 great grandchildren, Kylee, Blair, Laykin & Addison Kate Granger, Haden, Jackson & Andie Huval, Kaileigh & Brilee Lantz, Bliss, Ayla &  Calli Stollsteimer and McKenzie & Braxton Phillips; 7 nieces & 1 nephew. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant son and siblings, J. L. Roy, Milton Roy, Charles Roy, Geneva Roy, an infant sister.


His memorial service is Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 2 p.m. in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home with the Revs. Roland Vaughn, Andreas Kedati and Richard Louviere officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service time. Cremation has been entrusted to Johnson & Brown Funeral Home.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Raphael Catholic Church in Iowa or St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lacassine.

Tucker James Powers


Iowa-Tucker James Powers, infant, became an angel on December 16, 2013 in a New Orleans Hospital.


Tucker was born in Lake Charles on December 13, 2013 to Torri Powers of Iowa and Mark Jennings of Lake Charles.


Survivors are his parents; sister, Tobie Christine Jennings-Serette of Lake Charles; grandparents, Stacey & Randy Jeffers of Iowa, Mikki Powers Miller & Kevin Hyde of Austin, TX, Monroe Jennings and Jacqueline Tremmell of Lake Charles; great grandparents, Toni & James Engeling of Austin, TX, Neil & Lisa Powers of Fort Smith, AR and Carol Vincent of Lake Charles; great-great grandparents, Rita & W. C. Powers of Kinder , Bill & Belinda Prude,  of Hebbronville, TX; Aunts & Uncles include, Zane Powers & Frankki & Jeff Files & Amber Spitler of Iowa, K. J. Miller of St. Louis, MO, Victoria Jeffers, Zach Talbot, Kayla Gradney of Lake Charles, Greg Powers, Lisa Lloyd, Hunter Jeffers and Lakyn Jeffers, of Sulphur, Caleb, Keesha & Breanna Jennings of Lake Charles; cousin, Joi-Jane Grace Files of Iowa. He is preceded in death by his Granny B. McCann.


Funeral services are in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 11 a.m. with David Savage and Monroe Jennings officiating. Burial will follow in Lewis Cemetery. Pallbearers assisting in his service are, Zane & Greg Powers, Kevin Hyde, Hunter Jeffers and Zach Talbot. Honorary are K. J. Miller & Jeff Files.

Rhonda Gale Armentor


Dry Creek-Rhonda Armentor, 56, passed away in a local hospital on December 13, 2013.


Rhonda was born on December 4, 1957 in Gonzales to John Benton Nichols and Mary Victoria LeBlanc. She was a graduate of East Ascension High School and was employed as a teller.


She is survived by her husband of eight years, James Armentor; father, John Benton Nichols; mother, Mary Victoria Nichols; son, Casey Arceneaux of Chauvin; daughter, Randi Arceneaux of Chauvin; brother, John Barry Nichols and wife, Clarees of Guiton, GA; sisters, Vickie Perault and husband, Morris Perault, Jr., of Gonzales, Anita Perault of Maurpaus, LA; and 2 grandchildren, Allie and Claire Arceneaux. Rhonda is preceded in death by her first husband, Randy Arceneaux.


Her funeral service is Monday, December 16, 2013 at 11 a.m. in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Dry Creek Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary at  6 p.m. and continues on Monday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.

Leonce J. LaFleur


Sulphur-Leonce J. LaFleur, 59, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013 in a local hospital.


He was the son of the late Allen and Leola Young LaFleur. Leonce was born on December 13, 1953 in Basile, LA.  He was a graduate of Evangeline Academy. Leonce was employed at Waste Water Specialties of Sulphur. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing video games.


He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Candy LaFleur; daughters, Amber Frederick and husband, Joshua of Sulphur,  Kelli and husband, Ronald, Kristi and Katie; son, Tom Rivard and wife, Tara Mandrell ; sisters, Patricia Blanchard and husband, Johnny and Barbara Langley and husband, Roger; and 11 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister.


Visitation is Saturday, December 14, 2013in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home  from 12 p.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m.  His cremation has been entrusted to Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa.

Cynthia Ann Johnson


Iowa-Cynthia Ann Johnson, 56, passed away in a local hospital on Wednesday, December 11, 2013.


Cynthia was born in Sulphur on August 29, 1957 to Monroe and Opal (Norwood) Kibodeaux. She was a graduate of Sulphur High and worked as an accountant for Louisiana Crane & Construction. Cynthia taught Sunday school for many years and was involved with Operation Christmas Child. Her giving spirit will be missed by her family.


Left to cherish her wonderful memories are her husband of 30 years, Steve Johnson of Iowa; son, Garrett Johnson and wife, Megan of Iowa; daughter, Laurey Johnson of Lafayette; mother, Opal Kibodeaux, brothers, Ricky Kibodeaux and wife, Davonna and Sam Kibodeaux, all of Carlyss; sister, Debbie Borrel and husband, Timothy of Sulphur; granddaughter, Brynn Johnson; nieces and nephews, Christy, DeAnn, Mark, Lauryn and Madeline. She is preceded in death by her father, Monroe Kibodeaux.


Her funeral service will be in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Dore’ Langley officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the funeral home.

Gladys Mary Broussard


Iowa-Gladys left this world to be with her Savior surrounded by her family Saturday, December 7, 2013.


Gladys was born in Gueydan on August 15, 1926 to the late Dupreville and Lucia (LeJeune) LeBlanc. As a young girl growing up she was always asked to dance as she was known for her dancing abilities. She was an excellent cook and baker and was at the center of all family gatherings. An extremely good seamstress; she was often told she missed her calling. Passionate about flowers and was happy to work her garden and watch her flowers grow. Gladys was instrumental in developing the Iowa Youth League Baseball program many years ago. She was the owner/operator of Gladys Beauty Shop.  Of all the talents that God blessed her with, the most endearing was the way she would care for people, having been the caregiver for both her parents and her husband as he was bedridden for many years. She would take in strangers as one of her grandsons had the ability to always find someone that needed a place to live. She was known as Maw maw to all of his friends. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, especially her great granddaughter, Myan Olivia, who was born four months ago.


Left to cherish her many wonderful memories are her daughter, Charlene Broussard of Iowa; son, Harold “Poncho” Broussard, Jr. and wife, Edwina, of Sulphur; grandchildren, Shannon Broussard and wife, Jennifer, of Broussard and Chad Broussard and wife, Jacqueline, of Sulphur. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Broussard, Sr., grandson, Michael Scott “Scotty” Broussard and brother, Dudley LeBlanc.


Her funeral service will be Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 11 a.m. in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home with Father Roland Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in Lacassine Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home. Visitation begins Tuesday from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. and will continue Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.


The family would like to thank her caregiver, Willie Mae Butler, for the excellent care she gave their mother and Amedisys Hospice Care for the help they provided the last few weeks.

Harriet B. Landry


Moss Bluff-Harriet B. Landry, 61, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2013 in her residence.


She was born in Lake Charles on September 11, 1952 to Henry and Margie (Duhon) Broussard. Harriet was a homemaker who loved cooking and baking for her grandkids.


Her survivors are her son, Jason Landry; daughter, Nikita Landry and companion, Michael Fontenot, all of Moss Bluff; parents, Henry and Margie Broussard;  brother, Victor Broussard of Pleasantville, OH; sisters, Lisa Vincent and Deanna Bordelon,  all of Lake Charles; 4 grandchildren, Elizabeth Lavergne, Kaylyen, Nevaeh and Gabryel Fontenot. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Wayne “Cowboy” Landry.


Visitation is  in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home on Saturday, December 7, 2013 from 10 a.m. until the service time at  12 p.m. Leonard Arsement will officiate. Cremation is entrusted to Johnson & Brown Funeral Home.
