Hayes- Joseph Edward Deshotel, Jr., 77, passed away in his home on Thursday, March 28, 2013.

Joseph was born in Hayes on September 12, 1935 to Joseph and Annie Mae (Moore) Deshotel, Sr. He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bell City. On July 23, 1960, Joseph married Eva O’Blanc and they celebrated 52 years of marriage. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with his grandkids. He also enjoyed watching old movies especially westerns.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Eva Deshotel of Hayes; daughters, Cynthia Authement of Morgan City, LA and Ramona Guidry (Carl) of Hayes; brothers, John Deshotel, Paul “Red” Deshotel (Sandra), Edmond “Popeye” Deshotel (Geraldine), K. O. Moore and Jimmy Deshotel (Pam); sisters, Beulah Mae Berry and Helen Guidry; 4 grandchildren, Stephanie Trahan (Wesley), Gordy “Boogie” Authement Jr.,, Kent Authement and Kayla Guidry; great grandchilren,Allie Authement, Chad Authement, Iry Cyril Trahan, and soon to be born, Ian Joseph Trahan. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Bonnie Sue Deshotel, and brother, Harry Lee Deshotel.

Funeral services will be in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Kent Authement officiating. Burial will follow in Hayes Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home. Visitation will begin Monday in the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary & scripture service at7:00 p.m. and continue Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service.


Paul Edward Williams



Iowa- Paul Edward Williams, 70, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013 in his residence surrounded by his loving family.


Paul was born December 14, 1942 in Lake Charles to Eddie and Mae Francis Williams. He was a graduate of Iowa High School and attended McNeese State University. Paul was employed as an Instrument and Electrical Technician. He was a past Grand Knight of Council 3006 of Iowa and a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church. Paul enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter.


Paul leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 49 years, Earline Williams; two sons, John Douglas “Doug” Williams and wife, Veronica of Buller Settlement and Paul “Todd” Williams and wife, Judith “Sissie” of Lake Charles; 5 sisters, Sandra Ann Williams of Iowa, Kristine McKnight of Humble, Texas, Susan Joan Foreman and husband, Ralph of Iowa, Rose Mary Gremillion and husband, Greg of Iowa and Edwina M. Broussard and husband, Harold P. of Sulphur and 2 grandchildren, Jacob Williams of Lake Charles and Kris Ann Kostelecky of Baton Rouge.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be in St. Raphael Catholic Church of Iowa Monday, March 25, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Nathan Long officiating. Burial will follow in LeBleu Cemetery of Fenton under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. and continue Monday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home.

Tammy Renee Bertrand Chaumont


Hayes- Tammy Renee Bertrand Chaumont, 40, passed away after a 2 year battle with cancer on March 20, 2013.

Tammy was born in Jennings, LA on January 30, 1973 to Roland “Perch” and Henrietta (Sonnier) Bertrand. She was a graduate of Bell City High School. She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Tammy enjoyed reading and watching sports, especially the Bell City Bruins. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter and friend.

She is survived by her loving husband of 2 months (together for 22 years), Christopher Chaumont ; children, Trevor and Ashley Chaumont, parents, Roland “Perch”and Henrietta Bertrand; brother, Terry Bertrand and wife, Laura; niece, Rynn Bertrand; mother –in-law, Melrose Chaumont; father –in-law, Erroll Chaumont and wife, Christine and special cousin, Bria Guidry.

Funeral services are Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home with Father Emanuel Tanu officiating. Burial will follow in Hayes Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home. Visitation is Friday from 4:00 -9:00 p.m. in the funeral home with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. and continues Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service.


Michael Lee Tyree, Sr.

Iowa-Michael Lee Tyree, Sr., 55, passed away in a work related helicopter crash near Grand Lake, LA on Friday, March 15, 2013.

Michael was born October 8, 1957 in Martin’s Ferry Ohio to John David and Ruby White Tyree. He was a graduate of Fonda-Fultonville Senior High School. He graduated from Allan Hancock College. Mike was a member of the United States Air Force. He was employed by Era Helicopters. Mike worked in the aviation industry for over twenty years. Mike was an avid New Orleans Saints fan who truly was a devoted husband and loving father.


He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Anita Broussard Tyree of Iowa; son, Michael Lee Tyree, Jr. and wife, Brittany of Lake Charles; daughter, Ali Tyree and companion, Ben Byrd of Carlyss; sisters, Marty Field of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and Trisha Johnson and husband, Roger of Johnstown, New York; 2 grandchildren, Kinsey and Jaeb Byrd; 10 nieces and nephews; 5 great nieces and nephews. Mike is preceded in death by his mother, Ruby White Tyree; his father, John David Tyree, and his siblings, J. David Tyree, III and Claudia Mae Tyree.

A memorial service will be held Friday, March 22, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home of Iowa with Monsignor Charles DuBois officiating. Visitation is Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Cremation is under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home.


Felix Lormand


Sulphur- Felix Lormand, 65, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013 in a local hospital surrounded by his family.

Felix was born November 1, 1947 to Samuel and Lovinnia (Buller) Lormand in Kinder, LA. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and worked for PPG for 28 years. He was a member of Apostolic Temple in Lake Charles. Felix was a kind, gentle man who loved unconditionally. His family and friends will miss his wonderful sense of humor.


He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Donna (Armstrong) Lormand; daughters, Paula Robin Darbonne and spouse, Roger Dale Darbonne, Felicia Florez and spouse, Mauricio Florez, and Holly Anderson; sons of his heart, Andrew Maggio, David Maggio and Daniel Maggio; brother, Bobby Lormand and spouse, Karen; sisters, Bertha Richard Watson & Mertle Nixon and spouse, Jack Nixon; 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dorothy Breaux.


Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013 in Apostolic Temple with Rev. Ricky Treece officiating. Burial will follow in Green Oak Cemetery in Kinder, LA. Visitation will be today, Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the church and continue Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Wilton Earl Stelly


Iowa- Wilton Earl Stelly, 82, passed away March 10, 2013 in his residence after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born September 28, 1930 in Rayne to Antoine and Claudia Stelly. He was a life-long residence of Iowa and a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church. He was employed by Petrolane Gas for 28 years. He loved to take his grandkids for rides on his horse and buggy. Wilton "PaPa Will" was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Wilton leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 61 years, Lou Annette Stelly; one daughter, Kathleen Ashford and husband, Willie; two sons, Tony Stelly and wife, Pam and Mark Stelly and wife, Mary, all of Iowa; nine grandchildren, Hope Brasseaux and husband, Stanley, Faith Roussell and husband, Carlton, Leslie Ashford and companion, Jason Roussell, Candace McGee and husband, Justin, Kristi Ashford and companion, Jason Ferry, Ryan Stelly and wife, Saige, Travis Stelly, Amber Guillory and husband Russell and Joel Stelly; 14 great –grandchildren, Morgan, Mady, Max, Myles, Hunter, Halle, Laiken, Lainey, Lex, Ty, Nash, Konnor, Kerrigan and Ellyse. He is also survived by two sisters, Loretha Cormier and Helena Cormier and husband, Melvin. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, including Harry Lee “Bud” Comeaux, his nephew who Wilton provided care for the last six years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Lacassine on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Roland Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in Lacassine Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. and continue Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Pallbearers assisting in his service are: Joel Stelly, Ryan Stelly, Travis Stelly, Hunter Roussell, Carlton Roussell, and Stanley Brasseaux.


Martha Faye Nunez Vincent


Creole – Martha Faye Nunez Vincent, 71, passed away in a local hospital Saturday, March 9, 2013.

Martha was born in Creole, LA to Adonile and Mary (Conner) Nunez on March 12, 1941. She was a homemaker. She made Cursillo #57 in 1983. Martha led a weekly bible study and rosary for her neighbors while living in her apartment in Grand Lake. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Creole. Martha enjoyed arts & crafts, reading, traveling, music and playing games.

She is survived by her sons, Denton Charles Vincent of Grand Chenier and Kelley Vincent and wife, Melissa of DeRidder; daughters, Belinda Harris and husband, Cliff of Waller, Texas and Jennifer Vincent of Creole; siblings, Curtis Nunez and wife, Virgie Ann of Kinder, Preston Nunez and wife, Rita of Iowa, Irma Granger of Sweetlake, Barbara Nunez of Kinder and Peggy Simon and husband LeRoy of Hackberry; grandchildren, Haylee Conner, Madison Huffman, Matthew Harris, Kerrigan Vincent, Emily Vincent and Kellen Vincent. She is preceded in death by her parents, son, Allen Wayne Vincent and siblings, Elry “Big” Nunez, Ina Armentor, Jeanette Clayton, Shirley Mhire, Perry Nunez, Avery Nunez, Will Marie Nunez and Mary Jane Nunez.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Creole on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. with Father Timothy Goodly officiating. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery of Grand Chenier under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday from 12:00 – 9:00 p.m. with a Cursillo rosary at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Douglas “DJ” James David


Iowa- Douglas “DJ” James David, 75, passed away in a local hospital Monday, March 4, 2013.

DJ was born September 24, 1937 in Sweetlake, LA to Alpha and Lucy (Daigle) David. He was a graduate of Iowa High School. After high school, DJ enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served our country as a Combat Engineer for 3 years and earned the rank of Lance Corporal before being honorably discharged. He was a resident deputy under the leadership of Sheriff Ham Reid for 25 years. His areas of patrol were Bell City, Hayes and Holmwood. After retiring from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, he was employed with Otis Engineering for 12 years. DJ began driving a truck of Dimmick’s Auto Supply delivering auto parts. Working in his yard and tending to his hay fields were among the many things he enjoyed doing after retiring from Dimmick’s. He was a volunteer for the Boy Scout Troup #25, a member of FFA, and served on the Board of Director’s for the LeBleu Settlement Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Henrietta (Chapman) David of Iowa; sons, Terry James David of Fort Worth, Texas and Chris Nunez and wife, Missy of Moss Bluff; daughter, Colleen Nunez Dunse and husband, Harry of Lake Charles; brother, Gerald W. David of Sulphur; 4 grandchildren, Brandt, Brooke, Brennon Nunez and Elaine Dunse and nephew, Andrew “Drew” David. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Robert Joseph “Bobby” David and step- daughter, Johnetta Nunez
