Annie Mae DeRouen


Bell City-Annie Mae DeRouen, 96, passed away in a hospital in Oakdale, Wednesday, May 29, 2013.

Annie was born in Gueydan, LA on May 3, 1917 to Theobert and Cara (Moore) Benoit. She was married to the late Clarence DeRouen. Annie was a long time member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church.  She was a homemaker. Her hobbies included gardening, baking and spending time with her family.

She  is survived by her daughter, Frances Hayes of Bell City; grandchildren, Karla and Darrell Semien of Oberlin, LA, Jason and Donna Hayes of Hayes, LA; great grandchildren, Chelsea and Jordan Hayes, Corey, Tyler, Malachi, Madison and Miracle Semien; brothers, Walter Benoit and Bascum (Pat) Benoit, all of Lake Charles; sisters, Mary Nastri of McSherrytown, PA and Ruby Peshoef (Gilbert) of Lake Charles. She is preceded in death by her spouse, parents and siblings.

Funeral services are Friday, May 31, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home with Father Emanuel Tanu officiating. Burial will follow in Lorrain DeRouen Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home. Visitation will begin Thursday from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home and continue Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.


Ruffin Adam Dyson


Iowa-Ruffin Adam Dyson, 88, formerly of Grand Chenier, passed away surrounded by his loving family Monday, May 27, 2013.

Ruffin was born in Pecan Island on December 11, 1924. He was married to the late Geneva Miller Dyson for 65 years. Ruffin was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Crain Bros. He retired after 35 years. Ruffin was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers and the American Legion Post # 0364. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Grand Chenier. He served in the Army Airforce, 5th Airforce, and 33rd Fighter Control Squadron. Ruffin received the Expert Machine Gun and Expert Marksman badge. His citations included the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. BBQ’s and crawfish boils and being with his family brought him great joy.

Survivors include his sons, Paul (Deborah) Dyson of Houston, Ladd Dyson of Hecker and Danny (Lori) Dyson of Big Lake; daughter, Teresa Dyson Cooke (Malcolm) of Hecker; foster son, Leon (Ann) Leger of Cedar Creek, TX; 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and son of his heart, Fray Zamora.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be in St. Raphael Catholic Church, Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Father Andreas Kedati officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home.

 Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. and continue Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

The family would like to thank his caregivers, Christy Prudhomme, Theresa Langley, Angie Bott and LA Hospice & Palliative Care of Jennings for their loving devotion to their dad. Also, special thanks to Johnson & Brown Funeral Home for going above the call of duty.


Joanne S. Heard


Lake Charles-Joanne Heard, 54, passed away in her residence surrounded by her loving family, Tuesday, May 14, 2013.

Joanne was born in Mamou on January 26, 1959 to John Preston and Alice Joyce Fontenot Smith. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.  Joanne was a graduate of Vidrine High, Sowela and McNeese. She was employed as a designer with Polaris Engineering. Her hobbies included gardening, reading, cooking and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Steve Heard of Lake Charles; daughters, Megan Heard of Lake Charles and Stephanie Heard of Lafayette; step-mother, Dorothy Smith of Mamou;  brothers, Ted Smith and wife, Vivian, of Mamou and Chris Smith and wife, Lisa, of Alexandria; sisters, Kathy Roble and husband, Rudy of Clearwater, Florida and Ginny Ardoin and husband, Scott, of Vidrine, LA; and 11 nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.

A Mass of Christian burial will be in St. Raphael Catholic Church on Friday, May 17, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Wayne LeBleu officiating. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery in Mamou, LA at 1:30 p.m. under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home. Visitation will begin Thursday from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home and continue Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 in the funeral home.

Ronald R. Seaux


Iowa- Ronald R. Seaux, 59, passed away in Lake Charles Memorial on Monday, May 13, 2013.

Ronald was born in Crowley on February 23, 1954 to Abbie and Sadie (Comeaux) Seaux.  He was employed as a motorman for Noble Drilling. Ronald was an avid fisherman and loved singing for the Lord. He was a loving friend, father and husband.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Debbie Smith Seaux; son, Aaron Seaux and son of his heart, Cody O’Blanc; daughters, Allyson Seaux, Penny Seaux Fontenot, Angie Bourgeois Bertrand; brothers, Preston Seaux and Vincent Guidry; sisters, Thelma Richard, Barbara Guidry, Peggy Guidry Campbell and Lenora Guidry Cormier; 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a father to many.

Funeral services will be in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Paul Cavenah officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Jennings under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 -9:00 p.m. in the funeral home and continue Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.


Shella M. Linscomb 


Sulphur- Shella M. Linscomb, 76, passed away in a hospital in Houma, Friday, May 10, 2013.

A Mass of Christian burial will be in Our Lady of LaSalette, Sulphur on Monday, May 13, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. with Father James Winiarski officiating. Burial will follow in Farquhar Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home. Visitation begins Monday at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. with a rosary at 12:30 p.m. all in the church.

Shella was born in Kaplan, LA to Clorse Ancelet and Annies (Landry) Ancelet on December 20, 1936. She worked for Kelly’s Big Star in Sulphur for many years. Shella lived most of her life in Sulphur.


Shella is survived by her brother, Harvey Ancelet of Sulphur; nephews, Harvey Ancelet, Jr. and Chad Ancelet, both of Sulphur; nieces, Vicky Daigle, Beverly Nolen and Anna Trahan, all of Sulphur and many great nieces and nephews.


Cloma “Maw Maw Blackie” Racca 


Iowa- Blackie Racca, 80, slipped these earthly bonds on Wednesday, May 8, 2013. She went quietly, willingly and peacefully.

One of 15 children, she was born on April 19, 1933 to Adam LeBouef, Jr. and Eulalie Leleux. Maw Maw Blackie was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She loved cooking for her family. Her famous fudge will be missed! She enjoyed tending to her garden as well as babysitting for her grandkids. Her loving and friendly spirit will be missed.

Those left to cherish her memory are 3 sons, Edward Hargrave, Sr., and wife, Lili, Nelson “Rock” Hargrave and Roger Racca and wife, Cathy; daughter, Tangie Lefleur and husband, Allen, all of Lacassine; 5 sisters, Odelia LeBlanc and Lauris Gaspard of Kaplan, Mary Guillotte of Meaux, Verna Taylor of Lacassine and Ella Stelly of Forked Island; brother, George LeBouef of Abbeville; and numerous grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elwin Racca; child, Burita Hargrave; son, Rayford Racca; 3 brothers and 5 sisters.

Funeral services are Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home with Father Roland Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home. Visitation begins Friday, from 2:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home and continues Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.


Barcley Lee Levingston 


Hayes- Barcley L. Levingston, 60, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013 in a local hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Barcley was born on October 2, 1952 in Newark, Ohio to William L. and Norma (Laughery) Levingston. He was employed as a truck driver. Barcley attended Livingway Pentecostal Church.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 32 years, Norma (LeBlanc) Levingston; daughter, Erica Levingston Musgrave of Arlington, Ohio; sister, Melissa Curto and husband, Tom of Tucson, Arizona; 2 cousins, Tom Laughery and wife, Ellen and David Laughery; 2 nieces and 1 nephew and his sister-in-laws, Carolyn LeBlanc Leonard and husband, David, Brenda LeBlanc Langley and husband, Roger “Lucky”, Elaine LeBlanc and brother –in-law, Robert “Bobby” LeBlanc and wife, Marella.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 10, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in Johnson & Brown Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hayes Cemetery under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home. Visitation will begin Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in the funeral home and continue Friday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of service.


Cline J. LeBlanc


Iowa-Cline J. LeBlanc, 84, passed away in his home on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.

Cline was born in Hathaway on April 3, 1929 to Placide and Rosa (Rinquet) LeBlanc. He was employed as a truck driver for Dunham Price for over 50 years. Cline attended St. Charles Borromeo and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He enjoyed woodworking, farming and his crawfish pond. His family says he was a “jack of all trades.”


He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Carrie E. LeBlanc; son, Daniel LeBlanc and wife, Peggy; daughter, Sandra Bebee; brother, Elridge LeBlanc; 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Lacassine, LA, Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with Father Roland Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery in Raymond, LA under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home.


 Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. and continue Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
